How can workers find jobs in Australia?

When Pacific island and Timorese workers sign up to the Seasonal Worker Programme (SWP) and the Pacific Labour Scheme (PLS), they can apply for a range of different jobs in Australia. All workers can gain valuable skills, experience and income to take back to their communities.

Any Pacific island or Timor-Leste citizens who want to apply for work through the SWP or the PLS can read the ‘Information for workers interested in working in Australia’ section for their particular country.

Built-in protection against exploitation

All workers participating in Pacific labour mobility initiatives are protected by the same workplace rights and health and safety laws as Australian workers.

Regular check-ins are also conducted to make sure employers are taking good care of their workers, and workers are happy with their conditions.

Before Pacific island and Timorese workers come to Australia through the PLS, they participate in pre-departure training where they are given information about how they will be supported while they are here.

Ongoing care is provided by employers and Pacific Labour Facility staff for all workers before, during and after their time in Australia.

When they arrive in Australia, workers are met straight off the plane by their employer. Employers then support the workers as they settle into their new homes and communities and provide them with ongoing advice while they are here.
